To commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a thought-provoking classroom discussion on the topic "Mahatma Gandhi's life and his teachings" was organized by the Department of English for the students of M.A English II and IV semester on January 31, 2024. This joint event of both the classes featured insightful interpretations by five teams of P.G students- comprising Priyanka, Komal, Monika, Anshika, Rasna, Bindu, Kuljeet, Neeru, Sanjna, Anisha, Vidhi, Tanu, Tamnya, Shivani, and Bhumika - who delved into various profound sayings of Gandhiji. Students had to interpret and explain Gandhiji’s thoughts given by their teacher. Among the explored quotes were Gandhiji's impactful words such as, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," highlighting the importance of personal responsibility in bringing about societal change. Another saying, "Even a little untruth destroys a man, as a drop of poison ruins milk," was explained by students by giving numerous examples. Additionally, the teams reflected on the principles of non-violence and human dignity through Gandhiji’s words, "Just as violence is the rule of animal life, in the same way, non-violence is the rule of human life," and the power of unity and friendship in, &

1991 massacre in Sriperumbudur, India
The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, former prime minister of India, occurred as a result of a suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, India on 21 May 1991.[2] At least 14 others, in addition to Gandhi and the assassin, were killed.[3] It was carried out by 22-year-old Kalaivani Rajaratnam (popularly known by her assumed names Thenmozhi Rajaratnam and Dhanu),[4][1][5] a member of the banned Sri Lankan Tamil separatist rebel organization Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). At the time, India had just ended its involvement, through the Indian Peace Keeping Force, in the Sri Lankan Civil War.
Subsequent accusations of conspiracy have been addressed by two commissions of inquiry and have brought down at least one national government, the government of Inder Kumar Gujral.[6][7]
