  • Caribbean Queen Presents Mosaic Artist Omaira Silva

    Palm Beach – The Caribbean Queen at the Palm Beach Plaza Mall has been honoring one local female artist who lives and creates here, every month.  The Caribbean Queen program was launched since the store opened in late 2011. For the month of January 2013, local mosaic artist Omaira Silva is Caribbean Queen, prominently displaying her beautiful and bold artwork in the store.  

    Born and raised on the island of Aruba, Omaira spreads happiness by creating art. She is a self-taught artist with a passion for Mosaic, the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, mirror and other materials.

    The technique belong to decorative art which is an aspect of interior decoration, Omaira explains, but the craft requires more than just design capabilities, it requires patience, and dexterity, a good technical sense, and most of all an artistic eye for color and shape combinations.

    Omaira first discovered the art of Mosaic when she lived in Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands of Spain, where she saw some of the best examples of later Islamic mosaics produced in Moorish Spain made by local craftsman almost 1,000 years ago.
